My name is Jennifer Lee, and I am following my dreams.
Earlier this year, for my 37th birthday, I decided I wanted to see Frozen for the 3rd time with my 6 year old daughter. I love Disney and have been so encouraged by their movies in some rough times. Particularly relating to feeling like I was being held back from my deepest dreams coming true. Its like God was answering my prayers through them. Bolstering my confidence, reminding me that Good triumphs in the end, and to just hold in there. I felt Cinderella's pain crying in the garden. I jumped for joy when Tianna got her restaurant. I sang "I'm almost there" for weeks.
So on the way to this 3rd viewing of Frozen, I prayed that I would get out of it whatever I was meant to, that I would be inspired and it would benefit my artwork. I love the lighting, the colors, its all so beautiful and enchanting.
At the end of the movie, for the first time I notice the name of the director. Huge across the screen, JENNIFER LEE.
My name is Jennifer Lee. I stood there 'frozen' staring , with this overwhelming feeling. Felt like God whispering to my heart, you can do something big and beautiful too.
Then a minute later as we're exiting the theatre, I glance back at the screen, and out of all the little names in the credit list, my eye goes right to Jennifer Lee. Then at dinner telling my family I start crying a little and just had all these emotions.
So where it gets amazing, is the other day my friend sends me some info on Jennifer Lee and says you have to read this!
Jennifer Lee, the Disney director, was formerly a graphic designer, who left that job and followed her heart! (I am currently doing exactly this!) She became a writer, and then for the first time in Disney history, that writer became a director. The first female director.
And her message to people at commencements etc, is to not doubt yourself, believe in yourself, believe you can do big things. To follow your dreams!!!
Both Jennifer Lee's, former graphic designers, following dreams and taking chances, in love with Disney. Pretty neat.
